About Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ)
Introduction to the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (English version)
Within the German government, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is responsible for Germany's development policy. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement form the framework for the BMZ's actions.
The Ministry's work focuses on reducing poverty, hunger and inequality. The BMZ sees itself as a transformation ministry globally engaged in advancing the transition to sustainable, climate-friendly and nature-friendly economies, fostering economic cooperation, and simultaneously working to strengthen peace, stability and sustainable security. To achieve those objectives, the BMZ aligns its bilateral cooperation with the priorities of its partner countries around the world and works for strong multilateralism, guided by the SDGs. Working with its partner countries and worldwide, on the basis of mutual respect, the BMZ wants to change local and global structures in such a way that all people can have a better life.
